BuildsReadily

Chrome Extension

One-click calendar block for reading

Not on the Chrome Web Store yet — install manually, steps below.

How it works

01

Save

Click the Readily icon on any article you actually want to read, not just skim.

02

Schedule

It finds your next free slot and blocks it as Focus Reading on your calendar.

03

Read

When the block starts, the article opens automatically. No digging through bookmarks.

Why I built it

My reading list was a graveyard of open tabs. Now it's a calendar block.

Bookmarks are where good intentions go to die. Readily turns "I'll read this later" into an actual appointment with yourself — the same way you'd block time for a meeting.

How to set it up

1. Load the extension into Chrome

  1. Click the Download zip file button above, then find it in your Downloads folder and unzip it (double-click it, or right-click and choose Extract).
  2. Open chrome://extensions (type or paste this into your address bar).
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top right).
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  5. Pin Readily's icon from the puzzle-piece menu in Chrome's toolbar.

2. Prepare a "Readily" event type on cal.com

  1. Sign in to cal.com and create a new Event Type named Readily.
  2. Set its length to however long a reading session should be (30–40 minutes works well).
  3. On the Availability tab, set the hours you're actually willing to read. Readily only books inside these hours.
  4. On the Advanced tab, make sure Requires confirmation is off, so bookings land straight on your calendar.
  5. Under Location, add one and pick the option that lets a link be filled in per booking (labelled something like Custom attendee location) — this is what lets the article URL show up as the location.
  6. Under Settings → Security → API Keys, generate a new key.

3. Connect the two

  1. Right-click Readily's icon → Settings.
  2. Paste your API key and save. Readily finds your "Readily" event type on its own and turns off manual confirmation for you.
